Ipswich Heritage Cup 2008 Ipswich’s big weekend of gateball teams and doubles took place in a city buzzing with its annual festival. The local councillor opening the tournament drew the attention of participants to the smorgasbord of festivities that included art shows, street parades and rock concerts. Winners Rocky Gold came out on top of the ten teams that contested the five-a-side event. In a closely fought competition, nine out of ten teams won at least four games out of a possible nine The twenty minute doubles competition commenced mid morning on Sunday and, contrasting with the teams event, strategic play became less evident. The ability to pass gate two straight after a gate one pass became paramount. The Ipswich club catered in their usual outstanding manner. This was even acknowledged in the following day’s edition of The Australian together with a very balanced quote from club president Daphne Savage! Well done Daphne and the Ipswich club.
