Queensland Gateball Championships 2008 On the weekend of 9-10 August over 60 Gateballers representing 11 teams converged on the Caloundra Mallet Sports Club. Teams travelled from all over Queensland and as far away as Canberra to compete for the mantle of Queensland Gateball Champions and the Lola White Memorial Trophy. All teams competed strongly with many matches been decided by less than 3 points. At the end of the second day of tight competition Broadbeach came out victors, retaining their title by winning 8 of their 10 matches. Canberra finished in second place for the second year running with 7 wins. Ipswich Gold, Caloundra 2 and Rocky Gold finished in 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively with 6 wins. Participants enjoyed the wonderful weather, tasty lunches and excellent lawns supplied by the Caloundra Mallet Sports Club. Queensland will become the focus of Gateball in Australia in 2009 with the Australian Championships to be hosted by the Rockhampton Mallet Sports Club.
